Winnipeg Canada housing sales break another record
WinnipegREALTORS reported this past month was the best September on record, with 1,060 homes selling for a total of $177.1 million through the industry's multiple listing service. The sale numbers were up 2 percent over the previous September, while the dollar volume jumped 15 per cent.
Through the end of September 10,503 homes were sold, nearly seven percent more than in the first nine months of 2006. Plus, the dollar value of home sales through Sept. 30 was $1.78 billion, up nearly 20 per cent over last year.
With three months yet to go in the sales year, Winnipeg's housing market "has already produced the equivalent of a solid annual performance with sales rivalling our fourth- and fifth-highest property sales years," said Wes Schollenberg, president of the WinnipegREALTORS association, formerly the Winnipeg Real Estate Board. He said that dollar volume so far in 2007 is quickly closing in on last year's record level of $1.86 billion.
September has now become a more active real estate month, Schollenberg said in a press release, with home sales exceeding the 1,000 mark for the fifth consecutive year. However, he noted that dollar volume this past month was 62 per cent higher than in September 2003.
Sales of residential detached homes (excluding condos, townhouses) were highest -- 23 per cent -- in the $160,000-$199,999 price range, followed by the $130,000-$159,999 price range (16 per cent), $100,000-129,000 (12 per cent).
Nine per cent of Winnipeg houses sold for more than $300,000, while 10 per cent sold for under $70,000. The average days-on-market for residential-detached sales in September was 23 days, an improvement of six days from a year ago.
