Chattanooga Tenn home sales take a dip in April

April’s residential real estate market showed a slight decline in sales according to the monthly figures provided by the Chattanooga Association of Realtors.

Reports show 667 units sold through the Multiple Listing Service in the area for the month of April. Up until April, residential sales had seen three consecutive months of growth.

The 2007 April sold statistics were also off from the same time from the same month a year earlier.

With 1,804 total sales being reported through the Chattanooga Association of Realtors’ Multiple Listing Service, the numbers represent a two percent dip from year-ago levels.

Spokesman Chris Sexton said, "While the national market continues to see drastic declines, the local market provides a truer picture in understanding what is happening in the Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia. For each month in the first quarter there was a steady increase in the number of units sold."

"You used to see land on the 411 corridor sell for $2,000 an acre. Now it's selling for $200,000 an acre. There has been a big change in property values on U.S. 411 South," states Jan Cannon, owner of Cannon Realtors.

She has sold real estate in Blount County for 34 years. She said the real estate market has changed dramatically in recent months. "There have been many changes on U.S. 411 South," Cannon said. "For years, the property out there was considered rural, and it's now the hottest property around.
